Market Development Manager
The Open Mobile Alliance [OMA] is a worldwide association of companies from the mobile wireless industry which work together to develop specifications that support the global adoption of interoperable mobile wireless data services. OMA's membership consists of more than 150 companies that influence the wireless industry. OMA's members currently include many of the most influential companies in the mobile industry including mobile operators, handset providers, infrastructure providers and IT companies.
OMA is one of the most influential standards setting bodies in its industry. It develops and maintains cooperation agreements with a broad group of other trade and standards setting bodies. These relationships provide access to companies with interests in OMA's domains of expertise.
The new job of Market Development Manager will focus primarily on the marketing of OMA and attracting new members to join. A key element of the position will be to understand the universe of trade and specification setting bodies with which OMA should have greater collaboration and to assist OMA in creating the appropriate level of interaction with them.
Reporting to OMA's General Manager, the successful candidate will:
- Identify companies which would benefit from OMA membership
- Develop marketing strategies for outreach into vertical market segments with a view towards improved communication of OMA and recruiting new members
- Make consistent contact with potential members and successfully recruit them as OMA members
- Make consistent contact with media, analysts, and other publicly-facing channels.
- Propose, and when approved, execute programs and events that market OMA and create membership recruitment opportunities
- Identify the attributes of competitive associations and propose ways for OMA to adopt the most positive attributes
- Keep structured records of feedback that will allow OMA to tailor its offerings for improved marketing and greater member attraction and retention. OMA is data oriented and values actionable information over opinion
- Working with other parts of the OMA staff, develop suitable sales collateral
- Work with volunteer members of OMA to act on OMA's behalf as ambassadors of our work
- Establish relationships with existing OMA members and develop programs to keep them engaged as members.
OMA seeks candidates with the following specific skills and experience:
- Technically oriented, capable of understanding OMA's specifications and relating them to prospective member needs
- Strong understanding of web and internet technologies with a telecom background a strong plus
- Demonstrated experience in outside sales in a technical services or product company or in a technically oriented trade or technical association
- Experience or membership in a standards setting body is a significant plus
- Experience in a multinational sales or marketing situations
- Demonstrated capability as a public speaker, both in customer settings and in trade event settings
- Must be able to communicate successfully in a highly matrix environment.
Compensation is competitive with a fixed salary and an incentive component based on attraction of new members and renewal of existing members. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
Significant travel required.
Work location is flexible.
